This month I had the privileage to speak with Maurice Dowell, owner and president of Dowco Enterprises Inc. located in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri. Dowco Enterprises is a full service landscape management company focusing on high-end residential maintenance. There are some great take aways in this interview with Maurice. He talks about his company's intense focus on their "Domination Zone" and shares how his company has been able to establish a strong presence in local subdivisions. Maurice also gives some great advice to landscape design/build contractors who want to enter into the maintenance side of things. Once we get past the chicken talk landscape designer Katie Ketelsen and I discuss how she has used Twitter to attract more customers. It's really a simple strategy that I think is often overlooked. An interesting twist to this is the fact that Katie does not own her own company, she works for Timber Pine which is a full-service nursery and landscape company just outside of Des Moines, Iowa. As an employee, she is bringing in new business for the company simply by building personal relationships on Twitter. Wouldn't we all like employees like Katie? (member-only resource) . . .
