Profit Tip of the Week: "Value the Expertise of Others"
April 14, 2009
I mentioned in a past "Profit Tip" how important it is to get
candid feedback from your clients. It's equally important to get candid feedback from the contractors
you work with. I recently wrote an article entitled "The 9 Keys to Healthy
Sub-Contractor Relationships" and #2 on this list was- "Value the Contractors Expertise" Perhaps the biggest frustration I hear from contractors is that
their experience and expertise is not appreciated by designers. Believe it or not, there are other people who know more than we do. We have to show our sub-contractors respect by listening to their
ideas and suggestions. We will actually learn more this way and
in the process earn the mutual respect from our contractors. I highly recommend sitting down with your sub-contractors once
every year or two and ask for feedback. Ask them what they
think you do well, as well as what you can improve upon. Maybe there is something you could be doing differently which would
benefit all parties involved. Listen to what your subs have to
say. Here's a link to the article I wrote, it's free to everyone: http://www.landscapeleadership.com/public/185.cfm ------------------------- After reading the tip from last week about e-newsletters, Robert
Welsch of Westover Landscape Design sent me a copy of his companies
latest newsletter. His is pretty extensive and packs a lot of value for readers. He was kind enough to share it with our readers, check it out here: http://www.westoverld.com/about_newsletter.html
