Profit Tip of the Week: Silent Auctions: A Win-Win-Win Marketing Strategy
November 17th, 2008
Most non-profit organizations, schools and other groups host
an annual event of some kind which features a silent auction.
These groups are always looking for individuals and companies
to contribute goods and services. This is a terrific way to link your business to great organizations
and to promote your business at a popular event for free. I've
donated consulting time and design time in the past. In some
instances this has led to extra (billable) design time and even
installation work. The benefits to the organization are obvious--they get a monetary
donation when someone bids on your offering. Your new found
client gets expert design services in return for making a
generous donation. If you are going to add this strategy to your overall marketing
plan, here is a bit of advice--don't overextend yourself by
participating in more than 2-3 silent auctions annually and be
careful how many design hours you donate. Most importantly,
select those events which your targeted demographic is most
likely to be at.
